Canvas Tissue Cover / Block Green
The weather has been so damp lately—my nose just won’t stop running. Finally, a good excuse to blow my nose while walking around.
The Jianjian dual-purpose tissue cover can be placed flat or hung up. This printed cotton canvas cover combines practicality with aesthetics, giving a fresh new look to the plain old plastic packaging and, in turn, leaving you feeling refreshed and uplifted.
Pattern Story | Grid Green
I still remember the first time I took the high-speed rail several years ago. As the train sliced across the Chianan Plain like a blade, it felt as though I were floating above a quilt of colors—squares stretching beyond the horizon. I was stunned by the sight of such vast and vibrant hues. It was like a giant color chart, perfectly cropped. The rice fields, with their various shades shaped by seasons and strains, formed a beautiful and orderly composition, completely shattering my old assumption that fields were only “green.”
Later, I saw an aerial photograph online. A sprawling velvet carpet cut by white organic veins—this seemingly single shade of green was actually broken down into hundreds of subtle gradients. It was massive, minuscule, and incredibly intricate. The place? Chishang. When I visited in person, I realized that the visual sensation from the aerial view and the experience of being there are entirely different. Standing within this endless “carpet,” I had a strange feeling—like I was “maybe” in a rice field. But I was in a rice field. Perhaps my sense of vastness is underdeveloped, shaped only by time spent at sea or on planes.
Cycling slowly across this landscape feels almost surreal, like traversing a giant man-made installation (which, to be fair, it is). This space surrounded by mountains exudes a powerful sense of sanctity. It feels like a vast temple dedicated to grain, and I was overcome with gratitude for this fertile ground that nurtures food. Chishang sits on a plain between the Coastal Range and the Central Mountain Range. The railway cuts through the lowest point between the two, and looking out from the train, the layers of rice paddies resemble shallow tidal waves slowly rolling in.
All of Jianjian’s fabric pattern inspirations come from overlooked urban scenes in Taiwan—such as the linear arrangements of metal roofs or the weathered, water-streaked corners of walls. Each product is made from limited designer fabric, and due to the variation in cutting positions, each piece features a unique combination of colors and patterns, enhancing its uniqueness and perceived value.
