Lately, I often think that having a small store of your own is like owning a three-dimensional portfolio — it allows people who don’t yet know you to flip through and discover everything about you. I also truly enjoy the opportunities that extend from this little shop. Last year, I shared with friends that the general manager of a hotel preparing to open had invited us to discuss a potential collaboration. I’m very happy that we’ve finally completed this project recently.
We collaborated with Capella Taipei, which opened this April, to create a limited-edition fabric design. The project began last October and went through countless discussions and revisions. The final result feels like pouring out everything we had to give. Our inspiration came from the scenery surrounding the hotel near Taipei Arena and its location embraced by Dunhua North Road, capturing a unique experience of being surrounded by greenery and flowing rivers.
Since our inspiration has always stemmed from old residential neighborhoods, I often draw ideas from worn-out houses and the traces of human repairs. That’s why, emphasizing the comfort and luxury of a hotel this time was, in fact, quite a challenge.
I began with the reflections in Capella Taipei’s glass façade as the starting point, capturing the surrounding scenery near Taipei Arena and drawing in the tree-lined boulevard of Dunhua North Road. The result conveys a unique experience of being embraced by greenery and rivers.
A city filled with greenery is always especially endearing. The reason Dunhua South and North Roads are considered the most beautiful streets in Taipei is that they are straight boulevards lined with trees. In the sweltering summer, they provide shade and shelter, making a stroll there refreshing and uplifting — almost as if you were walking through a forest.
“Green” has always been precious, and one of Capella’s proudest features is its location on Taipei’s most beautiful street, where the lush greenery revives the spirit of every traveler.
I feel that designing fabric patterns is a bit like interacting with people — you need to maintain a certain sense of “distance,” or the ability to blur concrete things, perhaps similar to how everything looks when we squint our eyes. I consider myself somewhat fussy; whenever I see something beautiful, I can’t bear to let it go. Although JainJain means “to simplify,” many of our patterns actually turn out rather “complex.”
That’s why, in the design we created for Capella Taipei, you can still find many elements woven together — such as the two banyan trees in the hotel plaza, the skyline formed by the camphor trees along Dunhua North Road, and the curtain wall of the hotel building — all integrated into this pattern.
Capella Taipei is a residence that offers a soft and refined experience. With its attentive and thoughtful service, it allows both body and mind to relax. Even after a busy day in the city, returning to Capella — nestled within a green “carpet” — brings travelers comfort through its exquisite service and environment.
The color palette of this pattern is like a salad lightly dressed with olive oil — refreshing, crisp, and just perfect to share at this moment.
Selected limited-edition items from the collaboration between Jian Jian Handmade and Capella are available exclusively at the hotel, while some pieces can be experienced during dining at the hotel bar.
These items are not available at the Jian Jian physical store.
